Thacher Hurd is the artist and author of such favorite picture books as Mama Don't Allow, Mystery on the Docks and Art Dog. Thacher began his artistic career in fine art before authoring and illustrating children's books. His entertaining stories engage a wide range of topics from the rhythm of jazz music in Mama Don't Allow (1982) to alien bovine abduction in Moo Cow Kaboom (2003). Thacher's most popular titles include Art Dog (1997), about a super-hero canine museum security guard, and Zoom City(1998) in which dogs hurtle through city streets in high-powered automobiles.

From a recent SF Chronicle review:

"Berkeley's Thacher Hurd lets frogs run amok in the anarchic Bad Frogs. Follow along as these slimy rebels do everything good little kids don't: They make bad noises at the dinner table, smell yucky, talk crummy...they are utterly incorrigible. This celebration of irredeemable badness is a breath of fresh air in a world of children's literature where misbehavers always learn their lesson and change their ways."

Cat's Pajamas: For those of you who have a toddler who is addicted to this book and can’t find a copy in your local bookstore, the bad news is that, yes, it is out of print. I get more emails about this book than all my other books combined. It seems as if one and two year olds can’t get enough of this book. So for those of you who are looking for it, it is only available(sometimes at a high price) from Amazon and Abebooks. My own supply has dwindled to the point that I can sadly no longer sell copies to those who ask for them. But I am looking into getting Cat's Pajamas republished. In the meantime I might suggest my other board book, Zoom City, which is still in print.

Other News:

I am thrilled that the Seattle Children’s Theater is producing a musical based on my book Art Dog The script will be by John Olive, and the music by Sue Ennis. It will debut next year.

Elisa Kleven and I are collaborating on a picturebook called The Weaver.  I wrote the text and she has done beautiful gorgeous wonderful illustrations. It will be out next year from Farrar Straus.

My middle grade Berkeley space-adventure-loony novel, Bongo Fish is finally getting finished after about five years of off and on again work, and will be published by Holt next year.
